And no I cant stop think that it would actually make a decent car for me.
AWD, semi lux, great cruisers, lots of space... cheap ford parts but not-as-cheap ford int. MKS can tow 1000lbs, so I can take my motorcycle to a track day.
not a fan of all the chrome and what not on it. But other then that.....I can deal with it being auto only, and the foot parking break doesnt bother me as much as it used to.
EDIT: ok, let me make this clear: this isnt a new car. this is going to be like a 10K car I use to get to and from uni (1000 miles each way) and winter car for the next 5-6 years.
come on oppo, talk me in/out of it

I'd honestly have to agree with you - they aren't bad cars. You could certainly do a lot worse.

A second-gen 3.6L Cadillac CTS4 is so much better and can probably be had for the same price.

I like them a lot. I've test driven a few and it's on the short list for my next car.

A new 2 Series. A new 3 Series. C Class, A4, maybe even the Jaguar XE
I won't even get into CPO cars.

I'd say that depends on if you're talking when the car is new or when it's used. New, probably. But wait until it's about three years old and the depreciation will make it cheaper than your ST. And at that price range it's a hard car to top when you're talking big, comfy, luxurious cruiser sedans.

2/3/c/a4/xe are all compact and midsize cars...the MKS is a fullsize car
Completely different categories

if i'm commuting myself, i use the suzuki SV :P
this is winter.
the pros for the lincoln that I see is that there is a ford/lincoln dealer in town (thunder bay) no jag/merc/bmw/audi dealers here. there is an acura, a mistu, a honda, a toyota, ford/lincoln, subaru and thats about it.

Why would someone want a fullsize car? Preference? I have an RS6 and an ELR and drive alone. Preference is a great thing.

i cant stand the ints of mistu./ at all. like dam, not even the ford mustang have int plastics that bad.

also, high insurance rates for evos. not so much for linc's

The World of Vee

12/07/2014 at 13:58 | 0 |
What do you drive now? Have you driven an ecoboost taurus or mks? They're awd and insanely fast. Looks are subjective but knocking the performance because of some weird feigned "all cars should be rwd" is just silly
Not to mention the interior quality will likely be MUCH better than a low end 2 series

when going to school, its going to be filled with guys. when used in the winter, its going to be shopping for 3-4 guys.
in the summer, when i'm commuting alone, I use my motorcycle, so the car will just sit unless I have a date or something.
GeorgeyBoy

12/07/2014 at 13:59 | 0 |
Was it a 08 or 09.* Seems like the 10's are a lot more reliable. Just by experience I would also be wary of the early MKS ecoboost. Everyone I looked at had at least one turbo replaced. Turbos aren't cheap. Just the plain old 3.7 seems to be the best bang for the buck for just reliable luxurious transportation.
The World of Vee

Dusty Ventures

With the way they depreciate buying a 3-5 year-old used Lincoln is one of the best deals out there. Of course you'll be on the receiving end of that depreciation hit when you go to sell it, but during the ownership bit in the middle it'll be a great choice IMO. We may end up grabbing a used MKS/MKZ for the funeral home by the end of 2015.

Dude I'm not saying FWD cars are bad, I'm just saying for the money, that's what I'd rather have. Performance is something that takes priority over luxury when I look for a car.

The World of Vee
> Brian Silvestro
12/07/2014 at 14:03 | 0 |
And that's your opinion and nothing wrong with that. But you're again discrediting the performance of the MKS ecoboost.
I'm an audi guy by history, but I'm slowly getting into luxury domestics, unless you've driven the thing flatly dismissing it like your original post did is just doing yourself a disservice.

I bought my mom an MKT ecoboost, too much car for me but she loves the low ride height 6 passenger power wagon. She's a former Range/X5 owner so if she thinks it's better than the german and british guys then I'm gonna believe it!

I know, a fiesta right? Try the V6 ecoboost. Try a 2 series or an A4 or a 4 banger C class. The 3.5 is a monster compared to those sorry engines.
GeorgeyBoy
> bob and john
12/07/2014 at 14:07 | 0 |
3.5 was in the Taurus, the 3.7 in the MKS more or less is the same. I've yet to look at TLs but they're also on my short list comparable to the MKS.
bob and john

i was looking at TL's, but they are SO expensive in comparison. At least the gen that I want.

Well yeah it has like 365 HP right? I just looked, an Ecoboost MKS costs $45k. An M235i costs $44k.
I'd rather have an SHO, it just looks better.
GeorgeyBoy
> bob and john
12/07/2014 at 14:11 | 0 |
I see clean 09s for around $15k which is what clean MKS go for. I guess it depends on the area.
The World of Vee
> Brian Silvestro
12/07/2014 at 14:13 | 1 |
I owned a 2013 SHO for 2 months (I thought I was going to get rid of my RS6) The MKS just has a way nicer interior, only reason I got rid of it was because I couldn't bear to get rid of my RS6 and I already had 3 cars lol
bob and john
> GeorgeyBoy
12/07/2014 at 14:14 | 0 |
yea. in toronto, a clean 08 TL (with a manual) with about 150K km is ~15K
a clean 09 MKS with the same KM is about 12k list, can probably be had for about 10 with good haggling.
GeorgeyBoy
> bob and john
12/07/2014 at 14:20 | 0 |
I guess when you factor in future depreciation the Honda might be a better investment. Makes sense to cross shop the Taurus too, the limiteds are pretty damn luxurious and close to the MKS for a lot cheaper.
bob and john
> GeorgeyBoy
12/07/2014 at 14:23 | 0 |
ehh. my family tends to drive cars into the ground (though I get the feeling I might be the first to do otherwise)
and in 5 or 6 years, they will both be at the bottom of the depretiation curve. so might as well start with the cheaper car that also has AWD
(OH, and the acura run on 91. the linc will swill 87 all day long)

GeorgeyBoy
> bob and john
12/07/2014 at 14:34 | 0 |
Don't let 87 to 91 sway you. Comes down to like $3 more a tank.. Not to mention is probably a more efficient engine anyway.
bob and john

12/07/2014 at 14:36 | 0 |

Im not. its going to be like a 10K car (or an 07 or 08) for getting to and from school
bob and john

12/07/2014 at 14:38 | 0 |
in the states. in canada, 91 is 125% of the price of 87. so if 87 is 1.20/l, 91 is 1.50/l

list of dealers in thunder bay: acura, ford, lincoln, mistubishi, subaru, toyota, and VW. and a honda. no audi, no merc, no BMW, no jag, nothing thats actually nice. and seeing as i'm here for 8 months of the year, id like something I can take to them.
